We analyzed this prop bet’s results from 2006 to present. The overall trend is as predictable as the coin toss, see tables below. However, a deeper dive into the data yields some interesting nuggets.
The majority of National Anthem renditions from female singers have gone over the sportsbook’s line. Alicia Keys sang the longest anthem in 2013, clocking in at 2:35. Males have taken much less time, despite Reba McEntire’s 2024 performance that clocked just 1:28, hitting the under.
Other Findings
- Odd or Even years do not correlate to an over or under result.
- Not enough data exists to conclude performer genre affects result.
- Monitor performer’s health before the anthem. Sick vocalists routinely decrease performance length.
In 2019, Gladys Knight’s anthem was a close call. Some sportsbooks graded her performance over after they included her second utterance of “the brave”. This addition edged her over the 1 minute, 47 second line. Others called it under because Knight’s initial “brave” note – the official conclusion of the words – sneaked below her estimated performance time.
P!nk went under the prop line in 2018 due to the flu. Otherwise, it’s likely her performance would have continued the strong trend of females going over the sportsbook’s estimated length.

A small controversy ensued after Lady Gaga’s 2016 National Anthem, in which she repeated the “brave” note after the anthem had technically finished. This repetition pushed her performance over some lines. One sportsbook notoriously graded the performance under. They decided the anthem officially ended on the first “brave” note. Other sportsbooks graded it over, marking the end of the anthem after Lady Gaga stopped singing altogether.
